‘MUST READ’ Verses For Christian Parents

Most electrical gadgets come with a manual instructing you about the usage of the items.  These instructions are to help maintain the gadgets.  Christians also have a manual which is the Bible.  The Bible contains so many teachings, stories, instructions, directions, counsels etc. for everyday living.  It serves as a guide for living life to the full.  One of such instructions is about parenting.  We are instructed to train our children and also love them.  Again, we are also admonish in Psalm 127:3 that “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”.  As parents we are to love, train, teach, control, correct, counsel & guide our children and above all leave a great legacy of good influence that is worth emulating.  Timothy’s sincere faith was as a result of his grandmother Lois and her mother Eunice.  I pray these important verses will be of help to you.

To Teach
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 – And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

To Train
Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

To Provide For
2 Corinthians 12:14 – Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

To Nature
Ephesians 6:4 – And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

To Control
1 Timothy 3:4 – One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

To Love
Titus 2:4 – That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

The Correction of Children
Proverbs 13:24 – Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him

Proverbs 19:18 – Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death.

Proverbs 22:15 – Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

Proverbs 23:13 – Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die.

Proverbs 29:15 – The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

Proverbs 29:17 – Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.

Instruction for Children
Deuteronomy 4:9 – “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children

 Deuteronomy 31:12-13 – Assemble the people, men, women, and little ones, and the sojourner within your towns, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, and be careful to do all the words of this law, 13 and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess.”

Proverbs 22:6 – Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Isaiah 28:9 – Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

Evil Influence:
1 Kings 22:52 – And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:

2 Chronicles 22:3 – He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

Jeremiah 9:14 – But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:

Amos 2:4 – Thus says the Lord“For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have rejected the law of the Lordand have not kept his statutes, but their lies have led them astray, those after which their fathers walked.

Matthew 14:8 – And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a charger.

2 Chronicles 26:4 – And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did.

2 Timothy 1:5 – When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
